While the first Yogi Bear film was remembered, if at all, for its innuendo-filled poster, the second one has already started off on a more promising note. Despite a critical lashing, the original film, which featured the voices of Dan Aykroyd, Justin Timberlake and Anna Faris, went on to make over $200 million worldwide and so, a sequel is moving forward.
According to a report by Deadline, Journey to the Center of the Earth helmer Eric Brevig will not be returning for the follow-up and instead Warner Bros. has made a pick out of left field. After directing such R-rated comedies as Super Troopers and Beerfest, Broken Lizard cohort Jay Chandrasekhar has been brought on to not only direct, but to also rewrite the script.
I don’t expect this family film franchise to get any cruder, but perhaps there will be just a touch more for adults on the second go-around. And if nothing else, it will bring the comedic talent to a much wide audience, leading to even more prospects. In the meantime, Chandrasekhar’s latest film The Babymakers is out on VOD.
