One of the most active names in Hollywood right now, Brie Larson has been carving a career for herself with stellar performances in smaller productions such as Room (which snagged her an Oscar) and Short Term 12, those paired with up-and-coming larger studio pictures such as Kong: Skull Island and Captain Marvel. Now, THR tells us she is stepping behind the lens for her directorial debut.
Unicorn Store, which the first-time director will also star in and produce, follows Kit (Larson), who moves back in with her parents and receives an out-of-the-blue invitation to the titular store that “test[s] her ideas of what it really means to grow up.” With a script penned by Samantha McIntyre, the project was at one point set to be led by Rebel Wilson with Miguel Arteta at the helm, but it never got off the ground due to poor timing.
With Larson wearing multiple hats, along with producing help from David Bernad and Ruben Fleischer, she has no doubt picked up tricks of the trade from directors she’s worked with previously, the likes of them being Edgar Wright, Lenny Abrahamson, Destin Daniel Cretton, and James Ponsoldt. As we await more details, get a look at her studying up for her Marvel role below.
