With a knack for mixing strong characters and flat-out hilarity as smoothly as Miguel Arteta, it’s unfortunate the director is as overlooked as he is. After delivering both Youth in Revolt and Cedar Rapids, the director has now added another film to his pile and attached a major up-and-coming star to lead.
Variety reports that Arteta has come on to direct a comedy titled Unicorn Store, which will be led by Austrialian actress Rebel Wilson, who broke out last year by stealing the show in Bridesmaids and taking a much different turn in the recently released Bachelorette. Scripted by Bored to Death‘s Samantha McIntyre, the film follows “a lonely young woman who has never had a boyfriend tries to fix her life by purchasing a unicorn.”
Having worked alongside Compliance‘s Craig Zobel and Martha Marcy May Marlene‘s Sean Durkin in the Sundance Writer’s Lab program, it’s exciting to see a young talent like McIntyre land an accomplished crew for her first major project. As Arteta also has the True Romance-esque action comedy 47 Rules of Highly Effective Bank Robbers stirring, there’s no telling what he’ll do next but both projects seem equally promising.
Which project would you like him see do next? Are you looking forward to seeing Rebel Wilson in more roles?
