Alex Proyas may have found his archangel. Variety reports that The Hangover Part II and Limitless star Bradley Cooper is in early talks for the role of Lucifer in the adaptation of John Milton‘s 17th-century poem Paradise Lost. It’s an interesting early choice, as Cooper was recently attached to the remake of The Crow, the film Proyas originally directed.

They report that Cooper is “eager” to play the part, although nothing official has been made. We reported last year that Dark City and Knowing director Alex Proyas will direct Paradise Lost for Legendary Pictures. The epic production, that will be tentpole action vehicle, “will include aerial warfare” and possibly be shot in 3D.

Scott Derrickson (The Day The Earth Stood Still) was developing the project, which “tells the story of the epic war in heaven between archangels Michael and Lucifer.” Stuart Hazeldine (Exam), Byron Willinger, Philip de Blasi, Lawrence Kasdan (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi), and Ryan Condal have all worked on the script.

Bradley Cooper will next be seen in The Hangover Part II on May 26th, 2011.
