Kate Bosworth (Superman Returns) and Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood) has just signed on to star along with James Mardsen in Rod Lurie’s upcoming remake of the 1971 class Straw Dogs. Bosworth will be playing Mardsen’s wife and Skarsgård will co-star as her old high school boy friend. Its scheduled to start shooting this august and no release date has been set yet.
Yes, this is a horrible idea and another pointless remake of a classic film. Now that thats out of the way, these casting choices aren’t bad. Alexander Skarsgård is an actual good actor, based on his work in True Blood and Generation Kill. The role he’s playing obviously calls for someone who comes off as menacing which he can do easily. Bosworth isn’t a bad actor, but has yet to prove herself. She’s been put in countless amounts of lackluster films that don’t give her anything to do. Maybe she’ll do fine in the role if the script is actually good.
