As we get close to the release of The Shallows, I can’t imagine there’s a better film with the makings of a summer sleeper hit than Jaume Collet-Serra‘s shark thriller. After the immensely effective thrillers Non-Stop, Run All Night, and Unknown, his latest film is perhaps his most small-scale yet as it finds Blake Lively‘s character stranded on a piece of land next to a Great White Shark.
Sony has now released the final trailer for the film, aptly titled “The Beginning,” in which some 1951 educational voice-over about self-reliance (see below) becomes the unsettling backdrop for a shark attack. As this trailer wonderfully builds up, the attack itself is only the start of the battle.
Check out the preview for what’s one of our 40 most-anticipated films of the summer, along with a trio of international posters, below:
In the taut thriller The Shallows, when Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a secluded beach, she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. Though she is stranded only 200 yards from shore, survival proves to be the ultimate test of wills, requiring all of Nancy’s ingenuity, resourcefulness, and fortitude.
The Shallows opens on June 24th, 2016.
