Get ready to spend your Christmas with Billy Crystal as Deadline reports that Parental Guidance, which is co-written and produced by the legendary comedic actor has been moved from its original Thanksgiving weekend slot to Christmas Day. Fox’s logic dictates that since there’s nothing to do for families on Christmas, they’ll probably all want to join together and see Billy Crystal and co-star Bette Midler on screen yukking it up. Or they’re hoping Django Unchained and The Great Gatsby, the other two movies opening the same day, will continually sell out and families will be forced into seeing Parental Guidance. The latter hypothesis amuses me more so let’s go with that.
Parental Guidance is a movie I have absolutely no interest in, and to be honest, I don’t know if anyone else in my demographic would disagree with me. Crystal and Midler are past their point of relevancy in the modern Hollywood landscape. It reeks of a studio just hoping it’s still the early 90’s, when a movie like this might have taken the box office by storm. The future is now Hollywood, stop trying to fight it. It’s sad. Naturally should Parental Guidance end up hilarious and successful, I will rescind these words and hang my head in shame for at least three days, if not four.
Will Parental Guidance be your movie destination on Christmas? Does the prospect of a Billy Crystal-led movie still excite you?
