Now instead of opening against Andrew Stanton‘s first live-action feature John Carter, the Gerard Butler dramedy Playing the Field and the Edgar Allan Poe-centered thriller The Raven, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel will provide a sentimental alternative to moviegoers not interested in the high-octane adventure of The Avengers.
Synopsis:
THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL follows a group of British retirees who decide to “outsource” their retirement to less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imagined, they are forever transformed by their shared experiences, discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past.
In other news, Tribeca Film has set the date for Detachment, the latest from director Tony Kaye (American History X). This ensemble narrative, which centers on the tense interactions of teachers and their high school students, has been slated for a March 16th release. It seems a smart move as that day is currently glutted with action-packed comedies like the Snow White tale Mirror Mirror, the 21 Jump Street reboot that co-stars hunk Channing Tatum and funnyman Jonah Hill, and Will Ferrell’s Spanish-speaking spoof Casa de mi Padre.
