If we learned one thing from 2012’s best villains, it’s that there is only one surefire way to escape from your worthy opponents: have them lock you up in a secluded glass prison. We saw it with Tom Hiddleston’s Loki in The Avengers and Javier Bardem‘s Silva in Skyfall; now Benedict Cumberbatch has taken note for Star Trek Into Darkness next summer.
While the first trailers do nothing to tell us his villain role (something I certainly don’t mind finding out until I’m seated in the theater), this new image from Paramount will give you no extra hints at his origins, but if you’ve been paying attention, our villain won’t be there for long. Check out the new look below featuring Cumberbatch on the other side of Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto in J.J. Abrams‘ highly-anticipated sci-fi blockbuster, along with the trailers if you missed them.
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
Star Trek Into Darkness, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller, arrives on May 17th, 2013.
