Angela Bassett has been tapped to co-star in Martin Campbell‘s (Casino Royale, Edge of Darkness) film adaptation of Green Lantern. Bassett will join Ryan Reynolds, who plays the comic book hero, as government agent Dr. Amanda Waller.
The character, who has previously been played by CCH Pounder (Avatar) and Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), is integral to the DC universe. Bassett is no stranger to action films (Strange Days, shown above) and should give the film a splash of prestige. Regardless, it will be great to see someone as talented as Bassett back on the big screen.
The film is currently shooting in New Orleans and is set for a June 17th 2011 release date.
