Released in April 2011, the low-budget horror movie Insidious surpassed all box office expectations and ended up raking in over $97 million  worldwide. This resulted in quite a chunk of change for Film District and due to the movie’s success both commercially and critically (read my SXSW ’11 review here), a sequel was all but inevitable. After hinting at it for all of 2012, Insidious Chapter 2 was officially announced last month with both the stars (Patrick Wilson, Rose ByrneLin Shaye, Ty Simpkins) and the creative team (director James Wan, screenwriter Leigh Whannell) intact and ready to bring the scares.

And now another original cast member has joined the ranks. Deadline reports that Barbara Hershey, who played the disturbed mother to Wilson’s character, will be reprising her role for Insidious Chapter 2. And what will her, and the other returning cast members, be up to in the sequel? Well…none of us have any idea. But I’m sure we will soon as the movie goes into production in January. Given the way the first Insidious ended, however, one can start making guesses. Guesses that won’t be repeated here because I don’t want to be the guy everyone yells at for “spoiling” a movie that’s been out long enough for people to have seen.

Insidious Chapter 2 hits theaters on August 30th, 2013. If you still haven’t seen the original, it’s available to watch right this very second on Netflix.
