It would be a complete oversight to deny that Hiro Murai is currently creating some of the most fascinating, provocative images in television and music videos. Having worked in short form for over a decade, Murai has time and time again demanded our attention with his Emmy-nominated direction on FX’s Atlanta and (most recently) the provocative Childish Gambino music video This is America. However, it seems Murai’s directorial work is soon expanding.
Deadline reports that Hiro Murai is in talks at 20th Century Fox to direct Man Alive, a sci-fi thriller that “covers the events following the invasion of earth by an alien species, when a man faced with isolation and loneliness in order to survive realizes he might not be alone after all.” With Joe Greenburg’s original script rewritten by It Follows’ David Robert Mitchell, Man Alive would mark Murai’s feature film directorial debut.
Along with his frequent Donald Glover collaborations, Murai has directing credits on HBO’s Barry starring Bill Hader and Noah Hawley’s Legion. Hawley and Good Fear are slated to produce Man Alive, while Matt Reilly oversees the project for Fox.
