It seems as if legendary Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar is taking a break from his regular muse, Penelope Cruz, in order to reunite with one of his former stars. The director is preparing a thrilling revenge film in which Antonio Banderas will star as a plastic surgeon who takes retribution on the man who raped his daughter. The film, entitled The Skin I Live In is based on the novel Tarantula by Theirry Jonquet and will be the first film by the pair since 1990’s Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down!

Almodovar described the film to the Spanish publication El Pais as a “terror film, without screams or scares,” and that the terror genre has always interested him. However, don’t expect something typical from the Oscar winning filmmaker because he is confident that he will not play by the rules of the genre and we should expect this to be “the harshest film” he’s ever made and that Banderas’ character will be “brutal.”

Although Cruz will not be featured in this film (she has been in 3 of his films since 1999), the director does plan to continue their working relationship as he has four additional movies in development.

How do you feel about the reunion between Almodovar and Banderas? Are you disappointed that Cruz won’t be in the film? Are you excited by Almodovar taking on a terror film?
