After a long battle for All Good Things‘ release, documentarian Andrew Jarecki’s (Capturing the Friedmans) narrative debut is set to open this winter. The dark drama stars Ryan Gosling, Kirsten Dunst, Frank Langella and Kristen Wiig.

All Good Things is based on a real-life missing person’s case with a backdrop of affluence-bedecked ’80s New York. Apple says, “the film was inspired by the story of Robert Durst, scion of the wealthy Durst family. Mr. Durst was suspected but never tried for killing his wife Kathie who disappeared in 1982 and was never found.”
While the collision of wealth, power, and murder is often tantalizing, the trailer’s clichéd setup of star-crossed lover battling snobby disapproving parents, mingled with ominous music and the dubious title card: “Inspired by True Events,” makes All Good Things resemble a Lifetime original movie. Combine this uninspired trailer with the fact the film’s been shelved for this long – it’s hard to expect All Good Things to be any good.
All Good Things will debut on VOD on November 5th and will open in New York on December 3.
