Recently, I had a chance to speak with Alia Shawkat, perhaps best known as Maeby Fünke, the sassiest member of Arrested Development’s notorious Bluth family. While promoting her latest film, the Ed Helms comedy Cedar Rapids, she had this to say about the possibility of an Arrested Development movie finally being on track:

“I was sent the email and I was very excited. But you know I think all of the cast members, we’re all in the same kind of position, where we just hope for the best. But that would be neat, wouldn’t it?”

When I asked if she had received this email from the show’s creator, Mitch Hurwitz, she clarified someone had just forwarded her the news story, but she added:

“Everytime I e-mail him [Hurwitz], he will avoid the question, and just be like, ‘How you doing?’ And I’m like, ‘I’m good but I was asking about the movie.’ But it would be great; he’s not a liar, so hopefully it’ll happen.”

While it’s nothing groundbreakingly revelatory, I was personally glad to hear the cast still seems on board for a film adaptation, especially since the series has been off-air since 2006.

If you have somehow still not discovered the offbeat genius of  Arrested Development, it’s not too late to get into this world of in-fighting and in-jokes. All three seasons are currently available on Netflix Instant, so not watching it in its entirety would be a huge mistake.
