It’s being reported by THR that Al Pacino has signed on for a new police thriller titled Son of No One. The film is set to be directed by Dito Montiel (Fighting, A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints) and produced by Holly Wiersma (Bobby and The Quiet).
After Pacino gave us films like Righteous Kill and 88 Minutes he’s gone back to the well to do another police thriller that hopefully won’t turn out as bad. I think the most interesting part of this news is not that Pacino is entering but who’s exiting the film, and that person is Robert De Niro.
De Niro and Pacino are two names that go together, after their acting heyday in the ’70s and while costarring in films like Heat and The Godfather: Part II. However, in recent years while De Niro has been able to keep some semblance of an interesting career going, Pacino has continued to do the least interesting films that allow him to overact as much as possible.
The story “centers on a young cop who is assigned to a precinct in the working class neighborhood where he grew up, with an old secret surfacing and threatening to destroy his life and family.”
They are trying to get Channing Tatum to play the young police officer, but no such agreement has been made yet.
Terrence Howard, Ray Liotta and Katie Holmes are each in varying stages of dealmaking to join the cast.
What do you think of this film and Al Pacino starring?
