Don’t you just love screentesting shortlists? They seem to be a gigantic waste of time and really amount to nothing in the end. The only real benefit is to ponder what may be. Let’s be hypocrites and go ahead doing just that. The latest shortlist comes courtesy of Deadline, for the Tim Burton-produced, Timur Bekmambetov-directed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Based on a novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, who also wrote the script, it is a “3D re-imagining of Lincoln’s life that depicts the 16th president as an axe-throwing, highly accomplished killer of vampires, an obsession of his since those bloodsuckers supposedly took the life of his mother. Taking revenge, Lincoln wreaks havoc on the vampires and their slave-owning protectors.” Check out the list possible of havoc-wreakers below.

Timothy Olyphant is far and away my number one choice. After busting out with a great performance in Go, he has recently delivered fun turns with The Crazies, and most notably Deadwood. Adrien Brody showed he can’t really be an action hero with Predators. Benjamin Walker and James D’ Arcy both have a period-piece vibe going that could work, while I’d could see Josh Lucas kicking some vampire ass. Can’t we just have some crossover with Steven Spielberg’s film and get Daniel Day-Lewis and call it a day?

The $69 million production will see a release on June 22nd, 2012.

Who do you think should snag the role?
