While not the first name you’d expect to direct a graphic novel adaptation (then again, Sylvain “Stomp The Yard” White took on The Losers), Adam McKay is in talks to direct The Boys for Sony. [EW via /Film]

McKay’ got The Other Guys, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, coming out this summer under the Sony banner. And as it seems Anchorman 2 remains deep in the water, The Boys could most definitely happen.

But what exactly is The Boys about:

“This is going to hurt! In a world where costumed heroes soar through the sky and masked vigilantes prowl the night, someone’s got to make sure the “supes” don’t get out of line. And someone will! Billy Butcher, Wee Hughie, Mother’s Milk, The Frenchman, and The Female are The Boys: A CIA-backed team of very dangerous people, each one dedicated to the struggle against the most dangerous force on Earth – superpower! Some superheroes have to be watched. Some have to be controlled. And some of them, sometimes, need to be taken out of the picture. That’s when you call in The Boys!”

Where’s Matthew Vaughn when you need him? Or Zack Snyder? You know what, it’s probably for the best. McKay’s style of comedy is completely separate from anything those two have infused in their respectively off-kilter comic book adaptations, so bringing a new element to another, tired comic book adaptation can only help, right?

What do you think of McKay as a director? Writer? Can he handle this kind of material?
