No, you didn’t misread that. There is going to be a T.J. Hooker film. But it isn’t going to be a reboot of the original 80’s TV show but instead a continuation with William Shatner possibly reprising his role as Thomas Jefferson Hooker. According to Variety Chuck Russell (The Scorpion King) is the front runner for the director position. Brent Maddock (Wild Wild West) and S.S. Wilson (Wild Wild West) have been hired to write the script as well. The script “focuses on the relationship between the title character and his father”.
I was fine with the Asteroids announcement and even the Viewmaster announcement but this is just a clear sign of desperation. I never saw the T.J. Hooker series and I know it is a staple of the 80’s cop drama but that is where it needs to stay, in the 80’s! I can only hope that they don’t pull a Shaft and have a new character come in as the lead and have the original character turn into an extra.
