In an idea seemingly inspired by Be Kind Rewind, various actors have signed on to star in Cinemash, weekly webisodes available on MSN, recreating moments from classic films. But instead of Mos Def driving around Jack Black’s Miss Daisy, it’s Will Arnett as blood-soaked prom queen Carrie.
The wacky HD Web series kicked off yesterday with the first episode, directed by Marc Webb, featuring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel in Sid and Nancy, only with Deschanel as Sid and Gordon-Levitt as Nancy. The duo’s upcoming film (500) Days of Summer references said film in the trailer and a reenactment more believably conceived via gender reversal.
There will be a new skit every Tuesday through mid-August, the Los Angeles Times reports. Upcoming cinemashes: Christopher Mintz-Plasse de-gangstering Training Day, Milo Ventimiglia doing Oldboy and the obvious must-see, Cheech and Chong taking on Tron. The L.A. Times article warns the Corsican brothers’ short may blow us all away.
In what may be the oddest of casting, Cheech and Chong riff on the economic crisis in a cyberdelic take on the 1982 sci-fi groundbreaker “Tron.” Cheech Marin jokes that he agreed to participate in the project because “it knocks off 15 hours of community service.”
Marin’s longtime comedy partner, Tommy Chong, urges caution in viewing their episode: “I don’t think you should watch anything like that straight. It’ll have lasting, traumatic effects on you.”
Marin adds, “When I first saw it, I was shocked because I thought we were doing soft porn. And then, ‘Oh, it’s about finances; that’s kind of hard-core porn,’ ” before confessing to be a big fan of the original.
