Producers Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton, those behind Zack Snyder’s 300, are looking to adapt author Conn Iggulden’s Emperor series of books (The Gates of Rome, The Death of Kings, The Field of Swords, and The Gods of War) into a film trilogy. The books tell the story of Julius Caesar, from beginning to end. The script is written by William Broyles, who wrote Jarhead and Flags Of Our Fathers. [Deadline Hollywood, via /Film]

The two producers are currently working of Tarsem Singh’s The Immortals (which we just got a first look at). Iggulden’s series starts with Caesar as a boy, which is presumably where the film will start. Maybe they’ll call it Caesar Begins? Followed by The Dark Emperor?

Only a few years back many were sure the sword-and-sandal epic was dead, thanks to box office busts like Alexander and Troy. Then 300 came along and now we’ve got Clash of the Titans, The Immortals and Kevin Macdonald’s The Eagle of the Ninth just to name a few.

Do you want the people behind 300 dealing with Caesar?
