With a truncated window for the Oscars this year, the ceremony will take place in less than a month, which also means the nominations are being unveiled earlier than ever. Today, The Academy has announced their picks.
Leading the pack is Joker with 11 nominations, while The Irishman, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, and 1917 all received 10. The greatest success story is Parasite, the first Korean film in history to be nominated for an Oscar and it picked up six nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Bong Joon Ho. Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit, and Little Women also picked up six each.
Sadly, A24 missed out with no nominations for Uncut Gems, The Farewell nor Midsommar, earning only single one for Best Cinematography for The Lighthouse. Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Murphy, and Robert De Niro were also ignored as was Greta Gerwig for Best Director.
