With The Hangover Part II setting opening weekend records for an adult comedy (the flick has already pulled in over $200 million worldwide), it comes to no surprise that Warner Bros. is developing a third film. Craig Mazin, who wrote the second film with Scot Armstrong, has been hired to script the next iteration, The Wrap/TB reports.

Although critics mostly disliked the sequel starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifanakis, it earned an A- grade from CinemaScore, who tracks exit polls. As for third film, there have been rumors of going to Amsterdam. Director Todd Phillips has thankfully said they will change up the format and that “the third would very much [be] a finale and an ending.” Mazin told Badass Digest the following in regards to an ending:

I think the third movie ends with Doug staring at a row of crosses in a graveyard. It’s everyone – his wife, his family is dead, everybody from the first movie is dead. Somebody shows up and tells him his dog is dead.

If a third film ends up grossing just as much, I couldn’t imagine WB would stop there, despite what Phillips has stated. Mazin’s idea is pretty dark though, and in line with Phillips’ taste. I’m in the camp that thought, while sporadically funny, the identical structure of The Hangover Part II was a huge disappointment. I loved the first film, and if they can recapture that magic, then I’d be interested in its development.

What do you want to see in a third Hangover?
